This meeting was in the parking lot of Double Groove as our regular meeting spot is still closed.
OLD BUSINESS:
1) our last meeting was at Independent Brewing and we thank them again for hosting us. Don’t forget that Phil offered to help and collaborate whenever possible.
2) Tech Corner is moving to Thursdays at 7PM per poll results. It will restart on 8/20/20 after a brief break and the topic is cold-side oxidation.
3) We need to seriously consider the Christmas Beer! Adi brought back the channel on Slack. Most of you will need to add it back into your feed: click on Browse Channels, find Christmas Beer and click Join. There are 2 suggestions submitted. Let’s also start the discussion of whether, in this COVID climate, we can or want to make a Christmas Beer.
4) Ken is hosting LABS for a fall meeting on Sahti around late October. All interested in brewing this beer should discuss sourcing the necessary ingredients. The beer requires juniper, which some versions of can be poisonous, and Finnish bread yeast.
NEW BUSINESS:
1) September’s Beer is anything brewed with Kveik yeast. This yeast ferments quickly and can tolerate high temperatures so there is no reason not to try to brew one!
2) We had a vote for next year’s July style: we had submissions for black gose, Hefeweizen, or single recipe/different variable and the latter won. We will all brew the same recipe but change a variable such as temperature, yeast, hops.
3) The Barn is still closed for meetings and there is a general unease about meeting indoors because of COVID. Your board-members are trying to come up with alternative meeting spots. Our next meeting will likely be at the Equestrian Center. Keep an eye on Slack for details.
4) We are starting our Rewards Program for Homebrew as of this month: all those who bring home-brewed “style of the month” receive 2 tickets/unique beer. Homebrew that is not on style receives 1 ticket/unique beer. Please don’t enter the same beer in subsequent months! We will not hand out actual tickets but keep a tally on an Google Excel spreadsheet (link). For any discrepancies, please reach out to Linda.
FINANCIAL REPORT: we have $1,104 and 26 paying members. Our June raffle brought $104 to the club!
BEERS: our style of the month was Kettle Sour!
Ken: brought an original Berliner Weisse fermented with Lithuanian Jovaru Yeast harvested from Adi and Linda’s black gose Odile. He also brought a Lime and a Plum version of it.
Adi and Linda: brought an original Berliner Weisse that was a collaboration with Art and Claire’s BreweRae! They had 3 fruited versions of this beer: Mango, Mixed Berry, Tart Cherries. They also brought a Smoked Kölsch and a Tarragon Witbier brewed with Whiteout Imperial yeast.
Marc and Mike: brought an original Berliner Weisse and a Blueberry version of it.
Gregg: brought a kettle sour that became a mixed-fermentation brew due to Dave H’s inadvertent participation :)
Art and Claire: brought an original Berliner Weisse that was a collaboration with Adi and Linda’s BrOasis. They had 3 fruited versions of this beer: Cranberry, Pineapple, Peach/Ginger. They also brought the newest version of their Earl Grey Witbier brewed with Whiteout Imperial yeast.
Kelly: brought a Triple Saison.
George B: did not attend the meeting but sent a bottle of his Brett Sour via Ken.
Kevin: brought his Stout Saison
Dave H: brought a Sour Berry Pilsner and his Super-Saison.
Matt: brought a new version of his Brown Ale.
Chris: brought a Hefeweizen. He has a version of this beer he has brewed with watermelon and he will submit that one for our October meeting!
We’d like to thank Double Groove for allowing us to meet and share homebrew in their parking lot. Hope to see you all in September! Happy Brewing and stay safe! Cheers!
