We had our September meeting once again in person at the Red Barn in Abingdon.
OLD BUSINESS: 1) Our August meeting was open style and we had our lowest attendance.
2) Please sign up for helping with the Friendship Beer Fest on October 2nd. Get a Libations T-shirt if you work that day. If you are bringing a keg to serve beer, please also bring a vessel for it to sit in ice. Friendship is providing ice.
3) Our Christmas Party will be on Friday December 3rd at 6PM. Christmas Beer was voted to be an Imperial Porter un-spiced and un-fruited. Please post recipes on Slack. We will brew at George’s on 10/16.
4) Next LABS meeting will be hosted by Marc on weizenbocks on 9/17. Lambics will be early winter.
5) Libations Picnic will be on 10/9 from 12-7. Please RSVP to the Evite so we can plan food. Kids are allowed but please watch them. We will have a Blackstone grill courtesy of Art’s dad in addition to the grill on the premises.
NEW BUSINESS: 1) The club has purchased insurance as we need it for liability reasons. We should all be AHA members. In addition to getting perks, if we have 80% of Libations members as AHA members, the insurance will be discounted. For next year we are contemplating a discount on dues for AHA members vs. an increase in dues for those who are not. Please designate Libations as your club when joining AHA!
2) Granite Run is having a disc golf tournament on 9/25 with a homebrew competition right after. If interested, message Marc.
3) We brought back the water pitchers for meetings.
4) We will have Zoom until October but not past. Tech Corner is indefinitely canceled.
5) October is the month to nominate/announce board members. Ken will no longer run as president: he will be too busy next year. Voting will be in November as always. If there is more than one candidate/position, we will have secret ballots.
6) Next month’s style is Belgian Dubbel. We discussed the style. We missed out on voting for next year’s September style.
FINANCIAL REPORT: we have $610.24 and 28 paying members.
BEERS: The style was Oktoberfest and Festbiers. The club provided 3 commercial examples. Adi, Linda, Colin, Kelly brought other commercial examples to share. For homebrew on style, Ken had a Festbier; Mike+Marc brought a rauchtoberfest, and Claire and Art had an Octoberfest/Festbier/Hefe. Homebrew off style: our guest Corey had a Hefeweizen and so did Dave H.; Matt brought one of the Doppelweizenbocks he will present at LABS, and Myke had an IPA. George H. brought a porter and a sour; sadly, he had no details on him regarding his brewing process for them. We finished the night with a memorable offering of commercial RAR courtesy of Art and Claire: there is still a debate whether it should be termed beer…
See you in October and Happy Brewing! Cheers!
